Prostanthera rotundifolia.

Native Australian bush food alternative to Oregano.

Mature size: Height 1.5m x Width 1.5m.

Position: Part shade, morning sun. Dislikes afternoon sun in Summer.

Flowers: Purple, in Spring to Summer.

Soil: Well draining.

Frost tolerance: Light, occasional frost to -3.

Prostanthera rotundifolia thrives in slightly acidic, well-drained soil (pH 5.5–6.5). Space plants adequately to promote airflow. Water regularly until established, then maintain consistent moisture without overwatering—wilting indicates thirst, while excess water risks root rot. Mulch to retain moisture. Pinch young growth for bushier plants, and avoid pruning during budding. After flowering, trim spent stems to encourage fresh growth.

The leaves and flowers are edible and can be harvested fresh for teas, culinary dishes, and native food preparations. Use sparingly as a flavouring — the minty, thyme-like taste complements both sweet and savoury applications. Rich in aromatic oils, it's ideal for permaculture gardens and food forests seeking dual-purpose native plants.

Grown in our premium deep tubes, ready to be planted directly into your garden with a strong, well-developed root system.

Feed lightly with a fertiliser low in phosphorus such as Neutrog Bush Tucker or Osmocote Native, following the manufacturers application rates.
